Our History

More than 30 years ago two family founded companies were established with the goal to bring Australian inspired and designed outdoor products to market to enable families to get outside and have fun.

Both businesses flourished domestically in a landscape of competitive global brands and added to their portfolios through acquisition and expansion.

In 2017, the Whittaker family sold the OZtrail business to Odyssey Private Equity, and with the acquisition of Companion Brands from the McLaughlan family Adventure Operations was formed.

In 2022, the Ozpig brand was added to the portfolio. Founded in 2006 by the Shepherd family, the acquisition cemented Adventure Operations’ position in the outdoor cooking market.

Kakadu, a new brand established by Adventure Operations and launched in the US in 2023, extends the business’ global reach and strong brand portfolio.

A new organisation with proud heritage and decades of experience, Adventure Operations is leveraging its scale as one of the largest outdoor leisure businesses in the Oceania region with sights set on continuing global expansion.
